Title: Cytavision tru router Post by: efrem on January 09 2010 06:19am Hello guys i have a question to make
Is it possible to have cytavision running thru a router between cytas router and the set top box ? (http://www.cytavision.com.cy/english/images/graphs/odiges_services/setbox01.gif) As you can see in the scematic the set top box is connected directly to the cytas router. (http://www.cytavision.com.cy/english/images/graphs/odiges_services/setbox02_new.gif) A customer of mine has the set top box on the ground floor and an ethernet cable running try the first floor connected to the set top cytavision box. But on the second floor doesn't have WIFI coverage so i suggested to connect a WIFI router between them and then the set top box on an ethernet port. The question is will it this work ? As for the internet it will but what about the cytavision will it work too having a Linksys router before the STB? From what you describe i understanded that at ground floor theres an STB which is connected to the adsl modem on first floor with Ethernet cable and also there is a PC on second floor which is the one you want to have wifi connectivity with the adsl modem, am i correct?
Title: Re: Cytavision tru router Post by: efty on January 09 2010 10:42am My understaning is that he wants to do the following
cyta adsl modem <---> Linksys Router <---> STB(CytaVision) Most likely it will not work Most linksys routers do not support multicast and if they do their support is troublesome, as a result your network will suffer. Title: Re: Cytavision tru router Post by: efrem on January 10 2010 08:34am cyta adsl modem:
Port 1 --> STB(CytaVision) 1st floor Port 2 --> STB(CytaVision) cable hardwired to 2nd floor I want to do the following cyta adsl modem: Port 1 --> STB(CytaVision) 1st floor Port 2 (cable hardwired to 2nd floor)--> LINKSYS router --> STB(CytaVision) the adsl router supports wifi but doesn't cover 2nd floor Title: Re: Cytavision tru router Post by: panicroom on January 10 2010 12:07pm Connect the devices the way you describe (use crossover cable for correct connection between two routers) and disable the DHCP on Linksys router. Also change the IP of the Linksys router(static) into an IP address in the range of your networks IP addresses, be careful not duplicating any IP address. You have to use Linksys router as wifi access point and also as Ethernet switch, disabling DHCP makes the Linksys router act like switch.
I 've never implement that solution but i think that this may work. Making search on the internet may help you solving this problem. What you want to search for is " how to turn a Linksys router into wifi access point". I hope that was helpful. Title: Re: Cytavision tru router Post by: efrem on January 14 2010 07:26am my post has also been deleted. I've explained that this setup probably won't work because of different encapsulation and registration issues with the STB with the router. Don't forget that MyVision has a smart chip that needs to be validated with cytas servers
