Title: Thomson TG 585 v7 Issue Post by: falconcy on February 11 2010 02:36am Is anybody else having a problem with the Thompson TG 585 v7 router provided by CYTA? For the less technical types, this is the white and gray box that looks like it was designed by a mac fanboy.
I'm getting a number of disconnects at irregular intervals. The Broadband light remains on, the Internet light goes out. I can always sort it out myself without needing to call CYTA Support. Connecting to the router via it's IP address allows me to connect back to online. Once done, I check connectivity to iChoice and Cytanet and it's always still connected. I'm beginning to suspect the router may have a problem causing it to lose synch. Does anybody else have this issue? Multiple people with the issue will likely indicate a platform wide problem, just me will point the finger at the router. So just request a new one
Title: Re: Thomson TG 585 v7 Issue Post by: falconcy on May 23 2010 04:39am I think I may have solved the problem to the modem reboot issue.
I had previously enabled uPnP on the modem. Disabling this seems to have completely stabilized the situation, I also placed the modem in a position so as to allow it to cool better. Thus far it has not rebooted in like 48hrs. Everything is working fine, P2P works,, video streaming works..everything seems fine. There are no slowdowns or anything. As I've said before and I'll repeat it here. In many cases the problem with a connection is more often than not due to something on the customer side or the way the customer is using the connection. It is way too easy to blame all our woes on the ISP. .If you have slowdowns at any particular time, try doing a netstat to see what sessions are actually open at that time, it is more than possible that either a software update is happening or you could well be part of a botnet which is being switched on and off at certain times to do the botmaster's bidding. Another tip is to run a network monitoring software on your computer, (or on each computer if more than one is connected to the modem) This will show you the exact upload and download on the computer at that time. If your upload is totally saturated you will have serious problems downloading. Hopefully this will help some people, if anybody needs hand holding on this feel free to pm me. |
