My understaning is that he wants to do the following

cyta adsl modem <---> Linksys Router <---> STB(CytaVision)

Most likely it will not work
Most linksys routers do not support multicast and if they do their support is troublesome, as a result your network will suffer.

It is unlikely that cablenet is available in those areas.
You can find the postcode of each area from the postcode directory

8  Cyprus Broadband / General Broadband Discussion / Re: Internet prices in general on: November 18 2009 11:40am
The truth is that in fact all providers can offer better prices but they have no incentive to do so because currently cyta is being restricted by the OCECPR and monopoly law. In essense the private providers are right now charging too much making huge profits in order to build up their network. Since they are already making significant profit there is no reason to decrease prices and in effect gain more subscribers because once they gain significant market share cyta will no longer be restricted and will fight back.

To sum it up
yes they are charging too much and with clever advertising (free crappy laptop)they are luring ignorant customers when in fact their pricing is only about 50 cents cheaper than cyta. So for 50 cents you are getting
1. 2 year contract
2. The hussle of a new installation and the price u will need to pay
3. a crappy laptop
4. Bad to shitty customer service
5. terrible terms and conditions / fair use policy

and all of the above for the amazing offer of being behold!!!! 50 cents cheaper than cyta.  Shocked

On the other hand you can go to cablenet and with 23 euros which is half the price of any other provider and say no thanks to their sneaky marketing.

A lot of primetel customers are already leaving for cablenet already as indicated in the last survey released by the OCEcPR

http://www.ocecpr.org.cy/nqcontent.cfm?a_id=2687&tt=ocecpr&lang=gr

So if you want things to improve our only hope is that cablenet gets all of primetels customers so that they wake up and realise that they have other competition besides cyta.

P.S. Efrem pls do not hijack or post irrelevant things on this thread.
9  Cyprus Broadband / Cyprus Broadband News / Re: Primetel application denied on: November 01 2009 03:43am
It is not ignorance that is causing this problem. The city council members have property near the landing station  and are concerned that their beachfront property will be devalued because of it. I anycase the cable was successfully landed as shown on primetel's website. I do not know whether the council objections restrict it to be operational but in any case the prices of broadband in cyprus do not depend solely on this development. If cablenet can offer significantly lower prices why primetel does not also? Offering a shitty laptop with a 2 year contract and a price 0.50 cents cheaper than Cyta is not I would call free market competition. It is more like consumer scamming!
10  Cyprus Broadband / General Broadband Discussion / Re: PrimeTel Router Password and Belkin Router on: October 29 2009 01:54pm
According to the law that governs electronic telecomunications primetel must publish their interface settings so that any modem will work.

Cyta has already done this see link below
http://www.cyta.com.cy/interesting_links_texnikes_prodiagrafes_diepafon_el.htm

If primetel does not publish the settings required then they are violating the law and a complain can be filed to the ocecpr

11  Cyprus Broadband / General Broadband Discussion / Cablenet Anthoupoli Area on: October 26 2009 02:29pm
Cablenet started running their cables at Anthoupoli.
They are still working on covering the whole area, but they seem to be progressing fast.

Anyone with inside information on when they expect to get online?

12  Cyprus Broadband / General Broadband Discussion / Re: Updated Two Play Prices on: April 22 2009 01:21pm
Updated Price list again with Cytanet's new 4mbit speed.

Regarding cablenet the price in the spreadsheet is
for two-play with at least telephone and internet. Since there is no such package i am using the triple-play price

15  Cyprus Broadband / General Broadband Discussion / Re: Price Comparisons --Telephony ,Internet and IPTV on: January 05 2009 06:53am
Hi efrem,

In fact the package for cablenet included in the two-play comparison is the triple play because the requirement is to have telephone and internet. Since they do not offer it ,
I included them in the comparison with their triple play package. In any case they are still the cheapest.
