1  Cyprus Broadband / ISP Reviews / Re: Cablenet Reviews on: November 17 2010 02:48am
Overall yes.  Their customer service is very bad - they come over as cowboys most of the time.  I am not a gamer so ping delays do not affect me - there download speed has for the vast majority of the time been what I have paid for i.e. 10Mbps and as such I cannot complain.  Last night my speedtest to Limassol was 19Mbps - so some tesing for the doubling of speeds must be underway.  I have friends though who have major issues with speed and lag with their service however and I feel in that respect I have been lucky.  For the moment will stick with them.

Is this a Cypriot record?

You pay for 10MB and get .25  If you put this in terms of Car rental you pay for a Veyron and get a Smart!

Then exoun eipothesi!!!!!!!!

hi guys
its been 5 days I have 0.02mb download and 0.03mb upload

is it because I havent paid the f***rs or you have the same speeds?

5  Cyprus Broadband / General Broadband Discussion / Re: Cablenet HD. Worth it? on: June 16 2010 02:53am
I went through the same thing exactly but not my mistake. Cablenet assured me (3 different people) that it would pick up PIK HD - wrong (where do they hire their staff??!)  5 Euros per month for Eurosport HD and one other channel is most definitely not worth it, especially as I would need another box for PIKHD!!  I returned it next day - keep you 60 euros per year until a real HD option is made available - maybe next year via Digital......

That is very strange indeed.  Both my friend and I get PIK HD over cablenet.  I use a STB as my TV is 5 years old, my friend has DVB-T Mpeg4 tv.  It is definitely there together with digital transmission of PIK1, PIK2, EuroNews and ERT SAT!

No, PIK(Cybc) will broadcast the world cup in HD not Cablenet over their new digital HD channel PIKHD.  All you need is either a TV with DVB-T tuner (Mpeg4) or a HD STB which you can get from Bionic, Stefanis etc.  The signal is broadcast over the air to 70% of Cyprus (I think no Pafos as yet) it is also broadcast over Cablenet cable.

Cheers - purchased an HD STB and await the matched in HD.  Only hope they give us a choice of non Cypriot commentary!!!Poyiatzis and HD will not be a good mix!!!! Wink
10  Cyprus Broadband / General Broadband Discussion / PIK HD over Cablenet on: June 02 2010 04:14am
Guys,  after two days of missinformation from Cablenet (again!).  I have come to the following conclusion wrt watching PIK HD (i.e World Cup in HD!).  The HD box they have does not support it but they say that they send the signal over the cable and with a DVB-T enabled tv or a DVB-T decoder you should be able to watch PIK HD.  Does anyone have any success with this?  Cheers.

I have been a Cablenet TV subscriber since 2005 and have recently switched to Telephony and 10M Internet also.  There support staff are slightly rude and not very competent and a transfer from my previous supplier was overly complicated as many of their front desk staff have no idea of the the correct procedure, if indeed there is one!!! (I ended up losing my Phone Number! and had to pick another!)  Other than this the service itself for the past couple of months has been great - no bandwidth limits/no throttling I am very pleased.
12  Cyprus Broadband / ISP Reviews / Re: Netway Reviews on: December 03 2008 03:52am
Oh dear Oh dear - it is time that Netway change there advertising and I quote:

"FastLane aDSL Home Connections:
No Restricted/Filtered/Closed Ports"

There service is now officialy as bad as Cytanet in my eyes.

After 5 unanswered emails and two empty promises to improve their service the time has come - I have moved to Cablenet.

Update - Fastlane is back in the fastlane!  Netway tech support informed me that they would be carrying out an upgrade yesterday and my torrent speeds are now back to normal 250KBs.  It would have been nice to have been informed of the temporary traffic shaping without having to call them but it's nice to have the speed back.  If there are any changes I will re-post.
14  Cyprus Broadband / ISP Reviews / Re: Netway Reviews on: October 16 2008 07:24am
Not only usenet speeds - torrent speeds are now at about 25% of the speed they were last week - I have spoken with Netway who have confirmed traffic shapping is now in place but have promised an upgrade to bandwidth which will help - I am on monthly subscription so if it does not improve very soon I will be looking elsewhere.  There are cheaper alternatives for this kind of speed.......
