Downloading everything purely for the sake of it somehow doesn't work for me, there are more things to do in life than watch every single TV series and movie that comes out, besides, there aren't enough hours in a day to watch them all. The only reason I can see for that level of downloading is as a dubious business by hawking pirate movies around pubs and markets. Most people on the Scene do not approve of making money from it.
Private trackers are the way to go with P2P for sure. As far as FTP downloads go, access to PreDB and the Scene does have it's advantages though I'm not so active these days due to work commitments. You do have to give something to get anything though and pubs don't always have the full catalogue.
Regarding Cyta's network infrastructure, if you actually paid attention you'd know that for the past 3-4 years they have been rolling out additional Remote DSLAM's and MSAN's which extend the range from the exchange way further than 3km, even over existing copper.
Dissing CYTA for the sake of it rather than acknowledging that the real villans are the bunch of lawyers sat in the regulator's office will do nothing to make things better. Cyta could offer GPON were they allowed to do so, they already have a pilot scheme operational in Archangelos with around 450 users connected, they will expand it further as and when the regulator allows them too.
GPON in case you don't understand the tech will allow Gigabit connectivity similar to what is available in most Scandinavian countries.
there is not one legit dvd store in cyprus and i never profit from any download, i watch them all maybe not in the same day but over a long period of time... as well as downloading firmwares iso's and many things, not forgetting in a lot of houses now everything is connected to the internet using a lot of bandwith..
but i never had a problem with cytanet just some times but not very often they have been very good to me.. i just hate adsl in general because i am not in a cable area..
i am going to be happy with 8mbit and stick with it.. i never had good experience with adsl and anything faster then 8mbit... i had 24mbit but copper wires meant no one ever recieved full speed even being right next to the exchange... i doubt these upgrades will change much.. but the connection is good and i think i will be happy and just stick with 8
