most of tvs have a CI port for adding a cam for decoding MPEG4. This signals are supported only for DVB-D broadcast or DVB-S (if your tv has build in satellite receiver). However TVs can not decode clear QAM (cable) signals. Only the cable STB can decode those signals.

you can try by using telnet  but no luck still needs password.  Best way to do your job right is to get an aftermarket router like Linksys and connect it to your ISPs one.

first you have to tell us the brand and the model of the modem. then check whether there is any chance of getting access to the modem through username/password

Hello guys. just gave a call to the primetel's support department and received a negative answer about giving me the password of their modem. I need to change my WLAN name, password and see who is getting connected on my modem.

She told me i cant give you the pass(and then said there are no passes) because the modem works only as a modem and no as a router but i still believe that i can do modifications on it!

Anyway is anybody who knows the pass? Anybody who can crack the pass? Anybody who found a solution about the same Probs ?!

Thank you in advance,
Christos

Christos,

I doubt if anyone has cracked your wifi password since PRIMETEL ( and other ISPs) are using WPA, unless of course you gave the password to someone.

WPA cannot be cracked unless passphrase is a dictionary word, and I don't think they use a dictionary word. You can check that from the passphrase you already use.

See http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=cracking_wpa
Quote
IMPORTANT This means that the passphrase must be contained in the dictionary you are using to break WPA/WPA2. If it is not in the dictionary then aircrack-ng will be unable to determine the key.

You should speak with CableNet about this. If they use a standard encryption - they could tell you which one and you could buy the CAM module for this encryption from a satellite TV shop. If they use a custom encryption - you can get the module only from them. Depending on the encryption there is also a possibility that the card will not run on anything else but the decoder they gave you.

I also think it is about time CableNet should start sending a monthly issue with a TV guide and reviews. Everyone else is doing it. It is a standard practice everywhere around the world. They can send it by snail mail, email or have it available for download but a TV guide should be present.
