1  Cyprus Broadband / Cyprus Broadband News / Re: PrimeTel doubles it's internet speeds on: January 08 2010 04:37am

Stelios the technical hotline told me that if I am on an offer, such as 3months half price which I am on since start of my contract, then the speed will double after 3 months after the offer ends. To me this is complete non-sense, does this mean that whoever took out an offer for a free laptop wont enjoy double speeds until their 2 year contract is over? Its the same logic

i had 4mbits, and still have 4mbits. No "double speed" for me.

i wonder when would  primtel thinking about rising the`r speed ? because the speed r very low and prices very high i see cabelnet offering 10mbps with 69 ...and on primtel u get with 74 euro only 4mbps...my contra its about to end now im thinking seriously about moving to cablenet

do it! I think everybody should. Cablenet is expanding and will eventually take Primetels and cytas customers unless the other players wake up to the threat of cablenet. But reality is Primetel and Cyta have most coverage at the moment so they are still in a more advantageous position.

It is not ignorance that is causing this problem. The city council members have property near the landing station  and are concerned that their beachfront property will be devalued because of it. I anycase the cable was successfully landed as shown on primetel's website. I do not know whether the council objections restrict it to be operational but in any case the prices of broadband in cyprus do not depend solely on this development. If cablenet can offer significantly lower prices why primetel does not also? Offering a shitty laptop with a 2 year contract and a price 0.50 cents cheaper than Cyta is not I would call free market competition. It is more like consumer scamming!

yup good points. Anyways, lets see. Im just grateful that Cablenet has come along with higher speeds and lower prices, that way they can push competitors to do the same. I also hope PrimeTel wins the case.

I think one of their arguments behalf of the town was that fiber optics are dangerous for the health... hahaha
Imagine how ignorant they are

Unfortunately, ignorance can also get you quite far here in Cyprus, but that is a huge never ending conversation in itself. (Im cypriot, grew up in Germany, so you can imagine...)
6  Cyprus Broadband / General Broadband Discussion / Re: PrimeTel Router Password and Belkin Router on: October 29 2009 10:30am
Hi Stelios,

Was wondering if you could help me with this problem of mine. When I startup my computer and I connect to the PrimeTel router with wifi, it shows me as connected to the Wifi network, however if I open the browser and try surfing no page loads. If I wait a minute or two it starts loading the internet eventually. Usually what should happen is as soon as my laptop is on and it automatically connects to the wifi network the internet should instantly work. However, with this router given to me by PrimeTel it takes at least 2 minutes after conncting to the wifi network to load up the internet. Same issue with my iphone, my router in the UK is always connected to the Iphone as soon as I open an application the Iphone connects instantly to the wifi network and loads the internet or downloads the data almost instantly. Whereas with the Primetel router, it takes a minute to auto connect to the router (I am next to it) and then another minute to fetch any data from the net.

It seems like the router disconnects from the internet after some inactivity period, but that is strange because if I am on the laptop surfing and my girlfriend goes on her laptop, she also has the same issue and has to wait at least 2 minutes for the internet to work on the wifi connection. Also my iphone seems to disconnect from the wifi automatically after inactivity but this should not happen, it should always be connected.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks st3lios for the reply. I guess you are right, I doubt it is possible, however, I would have been interested to access the modem/router and see what they have setup and see if I can duplicate that setting on my own router to get it to work the same way. It seems like all PrimeTel users are stuck with the given hardware.

this is a big blow to cyprus broadband. By bringing these new lines into cyprus, primetel would have been able to offer better speeds and at lower prices. This would have really pushed the competitors, the infrastructure and the nation when it comes to broadband forward. I guess now we have to wait for a court case to be won Sad
9  Cyprus Broadband / General Broadband Discussion / PrimeTel Router Password and Belkin Router on: October 27 2009 07:35pm
Im trying to connect a Belkin adsl modem/router to my existing primetel connection. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to work and I wanted to enter the provided Primetel router/modem to see what setting they have so I can configure the Belkin the same way as on Primetel's modem/router. However, the Telsey CPAV624 modem/router provided by Primetel has a username/password whose default should be "admin/admin". This does not work! Does anybody know the username/password to primtels router/modem?

Secondly, could somebody tell me how to setup my Belkin G+ router/modem so that I can use it with my Primetel connection? Do I select PPPoE, where do I find the username and password to connect to the dsl connection? Any help please!! Thank you.
