Σύμφωνα με ανακοίνωση της OTENET ελλάδας αρχίζει απο το 2010 να προσφέρεται στα σπίτι σύνδεση με οπτική ίνα με ταχύτητες έως και 1 gigabit.
Η τεχνολογία ονομάζεται FTTH (Fiber to the home)

The main reason we are lagging generally behind Europe and Greece in broadband is because the government has not made any authority to promote the technology. In fact the EU's Commissioner of Information Society and media duties overlap several Cypriot Ministries. As a result there is no attributable responsibility for a single ministry.

In addition we have the OCECPR whose responsibility is to regulate the market so that it become competitive. Its duties does not include adoption of new technology and looking into the future.

What we need to do is contact some parliament members and convince them to put the subject to a discussion in the parliament. Unfortunately our dear parliamentarians(and this is indicative and an explanation why cyprus is lagging in these areas) are mostly clueless regarding broadband to the extent that they can be considered computer illiterate. Whoever wants to form a group of people and go and meet someone please let me know.
